I bought my first real camera more than thirty years ago as a London-based graphic design student. I’ve been shooting personally and professionally ever since, trying to tell a story or catch a time in each image.
Photography has taken me from a clan gathering in the highlands of Papua New Guinea to a dilapidated fairground in Lenin Park, Havana. You’ll see my interest in the political and historical context of the things I shoot, wherever they are. I’m a member of both the US National Press Photographers Association and the Photographic Historical Society of Canada.
My design experience informs the composition of my photographs. The other main influence is a passion for the history of photography. Although I made the shift to digital several years ago, I still shoot film for pleasure and admire the values of the mechanical age.
